The older group has seven names
Traditional Western astrology groups the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn together. Early skywatchers followed these bright bodies as they changed position in our sky. The Sun and Moon stand out as bright objects in the sky.
Astronomy names the objects differently
The Sun is a star. The Moon is Earth’s natural satellite. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are planets in modern astronomy. The old chart grouping does not change what these objects are.
Read the label as chart vocabulary
When you read “seven traditional planets,” count the Sun and Moon in that seven. Their names tell you which positions an astrologer is discussing. The grouping itself says nothing certain about a person or an event.
