LODESTAR JOURNALAn aspect describes the angle between two chart positions. When several aspects link three or more planets, astrologers may recognize an aspect pattern. The name describes a shape in the chart, not a result waiting to happen.
Look for a group of connected lines
On a birth chart wheel, lines between planets can join into a larger figure. An aspect pattern is that group of connections. Start by finding the planets involved; one line between two planets is an aspect, not a pattern on its own.
A T-square is one example
In a T-square, two planets are about 180 degrees apart (opposite), and each is about 90 degrees from a third planet (square). Check those three connections on the wheel. The name identifies their arrangement; it does not tell you what will happen.
A chart does not need a named shape
Some charts have no commonly named aspect pattern. Their individual planets and aspects are still there to explore. If a pattern does catch your eye, first name its planets and connections before deciding whether its symbolism gives you a useful question.
A few common questions
Does a T-square predict a difficult life?
No. T-square names a set of angles on a chart. It cannot predict someone's life or define their personality.
