What Year Is 2027 in Saju? Dingwei, the Goat, and Ipchun

The Korean lunar calendar calls 2027 Dingwei, the Year of the Goat. A Saju birth chart changes its year pillar at Ipchun, not January 1.

The Korean lunar calendar names 2027 Dingwei (Jeongmi), the Year of the Goat. That does not make every January 2027 birth a Dingwei year pillar in Saju. A birth chart changes its year pillar at Ipchun, the Start of Spring.

Ipchun is around 10:46 a.m. on February 4

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute lists Ipchun on February 4, 2027, at 10:46 a.m. Korea time. In a Saju birth chart, the year pillar changes around this moment. Two people born in 2027 can have different year pillars if their births fall on opposite sides of Ipchun.

Korean Lunar New Year comes later

Korean Lunar New Year's Day falls on February 7 in 2027. January 1 and Lunar New Year mark years on their respective calendars. Neither is the boundary used here for a Saju birth chart's year pillar. A calendar's year name may follow another rule.

What time is Ipchun in Taiwan, India, and Southeast Asia?

It is the same moment everywhere. Korea's 10:46 a.m. is 9:46 a.m. in Taiwan and Singapore, 8:46 a.m. in Hanoi and Jakarta, and 7:16 a.m. in India. Time zones can vary even within a country, so compare your birth time using the time zone at your birthplace. A local Lunar New Year date does not replace Ipchun as the year-pillar boundary.

Check the birth time near the boundary

Lodestar compares your birth time, using the time zone at your birthplace, with the Start of Spring. The published calendar gives the time to the minute, so a date alone cannot settle a birth very close to the boundary. The Saju chart describes the four pillars at birth; this date does not predict what will happen to you in 2027.

A few common questions
