The Moon reflects sunlight
The Sun lights half of the Moon. As the Moon travels around Earth, we see different amounts of that sunlit half. This gives us the phases, from new Moon through full Moon and back again. A full cycle takes about 29.5 days.
A symbol can become a question
In Western astrology, a new Moon can stand for a beginning and a full Moon for seeing what has developed. The growing and shrinking light can suggest making room for something or taking stock. These are images for reflection, not evidence that the Moon controls your plans or feelings.
